To ensure a wedding can be carried out according to Swedish law, certain steps must be completed before the date of the wedding can be booked. We recommend that you start the process in good time.

Apply for a waiver from Skatteverket (Swedish Tax Agency). This involves verifying that both parties are at least 18 years old, not closely related, not already married or registered as partners, and that any specific requirements for foreign citizens have been met.

When the impediment review has been approved, you will receive two documents from Skatteverket (Swedish Tax Agency): a certificate of impediment review and a marriage certificate. Both documents must be submitted to the officiant before the wedding and are valid for four months.

The person who wishes to change their last name can report this to Skatteverket.
